Overview
Spyware is software designed to steal information in some form or another. Your organization may face very real threats from three types of spyware: all underpin lucrative Internet business models.
One is designed to hijack your organization's, and indeed anybody's, computer resources to generate advertising-based revenue. In the process this may leave the computer wide-open to easy attack by others. As a consequence, this may leave CEO's wide-open to legal liability, depending on the jurisdiction.
The second targets individuals for the purpose of identity theft and Internet fraud. This may not necessarily be a corporate concern, unless you or your employees conduct financial transactions online.
The third threat has potentially dire consequences for your bottom line. Criminal gangs and (according to the UK National Infrastructure Security Coordination Centre) foreign governments, are intent on, and over the last year have been active in, stealing commercially and economically valuable information.
